Fryshuset started up in 1984, as a result of joint efforts by the YMCA of Stockholm and a couple of striving enthusiasts. They found a huge building, formerly used as cold store for meat products (Fryshuset means cold store in Swedish). In the middle of the 1990s Fryshuset had outgrown the old cold store and moved 1997 into a bigger building located south of the city centre.
