The best way to go to Mariefred in the summer is to take the steamer from Stadshuskajen. Mariefred is a charming old town with old wooden houses. But the real attraction is the Gripsholm Castle built by the royal family of Vasa in the 16th century. The castle is well known for its outstanding collection of portraits.
