August Strindberg wrote in 1873 about this little island on the outer skirts of the Archipelago that it is “a place of natural beauty, surrounded on three sides by water and on the fourth by the sea". In the summer Sandhamn or Sandön (Sand Island) is the starting point for many posh yachting regattas. But Sandhamn has more to offer. Pretty beaches (Trouville is the nicest) and walks in the pine forests make Sandhamn a real summer weekend getaway. Just hop on one of the ferries in front of Strandvägen and enjoy a sometimes very windy two hours trip across the archipelago.
