In the summer, Utö in the archipelago is one of the most popular places for outings. In Utö there are many things worth seeing, many of which are connected to the island´s history as a mining centre. The geology of the island has been the target of much research.
The mines dating from the 12th century are definitely worth seeing. The deepest of the mines is of the depth of 215 metres. Be sure to visit the Mining Museum and Lurgatan, a street with mineworkers´ homes from the 1700s.
